PhD in Coordinating Chemistry

Marwan Touma was born in Hama, Syria in 1954.  In 1976, he earned a BS in physics and chemistry from the Aleppo University, and in the following year, he obtained his post graduate diploma in Chemistry.  Marwan Touma continued his higher education in Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France and obtained his PhD in Coordination Chemistry in 1986.

Upon return from France, Dr. Touma worked in Aleppo University, from 1987 to 2012, as a professor of organic and organometallic chemistry in the Department of Science, the Department of Pharmaceutical Studies, and the Department of Post Graduate Studies. During his work as a university professor, he assumed several important positions: a consultant and contributor to the pharmaceutical industry in Syria from 1992 to 2012;  director of organic and mineral chemistry research lab from 1997 to 2012, where he supervised and granted six doctorate degrees to his researching students in the fields of organic and pharmaceutical chemistry; Dean of the Chemistry Department from 2003 to 2005.

Dr. Touma lives with his wife Houda Barchin in California. He has three kids: Rami, and Sami, both live in France; and Roba, who lives in Southern California.

Currently, Dr. Touma works as an instructor of Arabic and the Levantine dialect in DLI, Monterey, CA. He speaks Arabic, English, and French, and he enjoys reading and hiking for hobbies.
