M.S in Civil Engineering
Gabriel Kartouch was born and raised in Syria. He graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Tishreen University in Lattakia, Syria in 1980. He worked as a project engineer and chief engineer in several national companies.
In September 1991, he immigrated to the United States. He graduated with a master’s degree in civil/environmental engineering and a minor in French from California State University, Fullerton, in 1997.
He works as a freelance technical writer, translator, editor and simultaneous interpreter. He is Professionally Qualified with the federal courts in the US and an Active/Life member of the American Translators Association.
Besides his professional life, Gabriel has always been active in civic and cultural organizations and passionate about theater. In Syria, he was a member of the Syrian Scouts & Youth Hostels and The Cultural Work Association. In addition to his work with several theater groups and participating in the Damascus Festival for University Theater two times as an actor and a director, he was a co-founder of the Tishreen University Theater Group. In the US, Gabriel volunteered with some theater groups such as: Corner Stone and Al-Funoun Al-Arabiya (Arabic Arts). Gabriel is fluent in Arabic, English, and French, and he is partially conversant in Russian and Spanish. He is married and lives with his wife, Luiza, and their two daughters, Isabel and Rania, in Southern California.
