Adnan Aswad

PhD in Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Adnan Aswad is Professor Emeritus of Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he served as Department Chair, and as Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.  He grew up in Syria, and graduated as a mechanical engineer from Robert College in Istanbul-Turkey.

He immigrated to the US in 1959 earning a Ph.D. in Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he met his wife of 55 years to the late Dr. Barbara Aswad who was a Professor Emeritus of Middle East Cultural Anthropology. He is currently retired in California.

Dr. Aswad is a Fellow of the IIE, and is widely published in his field. He is the recipient of numerous awards for professional and community service.  Dr. Aswad is a founding member in 1968 of the Arab American University Graduates (AAUG). He also served on the board of the American Syrian Arab Cultural Association (ASACA) in Michigan, and contributed to the development of the Arab American National Museum (AANM) in Dearborn Michigan.
